book jacket image American Born Chinese by Gene Luen Yang

American Born Chinese is by Gene Luen Yang, This book is about a monkey that has many adventures and and about a kid that has a hard life in school. What the readers need to know in this graphic novel is that it teaches thoughtful messages about tolerance and acceptance. The art work in this graphic novel is awesome! There's some sexual things in this book, also potty mouths, fighting, and a kind of graphic scene in which a monk is stabbed by a spear and put on a spit over a fire. I enjoyed reading this book because it has pictures and its easy to read. I think you will like it too. (12/12/11)

  Bottled Up by Jaye Murray

Bottle up by Jaye Marray this book was amazing because the story in the book seems real and written by teenagers like me. I think she wrote it because she wants to let us know how is the life of drugs and because she doesn't want us to live the life that they have with the drugs so I rate this book a 5 because is a good book and is thing that some people are living in this days. This book is about that pip have problems whit his that so hi use drugs to forget his problems and he skip his classes and the principal tell him that he have to talk to he parents and pip was scary because if the principal call his that his that his going to kill him so pip have to go to a consoler and the way the principal is not going to call his dad. (5/27/11)
oscar, 15

When I read that book I thought that it could be a real story because some teenagers do a lot of drugs and sometimes it’s because their parent don’t care about their families. I loved how you describe “Pip” because you made him sound like he was a real person. All over the place there are kids like Pip and I think that it’s really sad seeing a kid like that and their parents care but all they do is abuse them. I also loved Mickey how he always asking about M&M’s. I REALLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK TO TEEN!!!!! (5/27/11)
Yesenia, 15

book jacket image The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne is a story not so much about drama and compassion but more of a message that we can learn from. It was about hatred and all these horrible things that one child saw and other adults didn't. It is a truly outstanding book that left me speechless at the end. There is not a better book to read than this one. It is realistic, dramatic and moving. The book takes you away from the world for a moment and makes you imagine the suffering that was felt. I highly recommend this book to all sensitive people who want to know more about the Holocaust. (12/12/11)
donald, 16

I want to review this too!

book jacket image The Boy Who Dared by Susan Campbell Bartoletti

book jacket image Bone by Jeff Smith

I love this book! I had to read the first book in my school's book club but I ended up reading the entire series and I so wanted to tell them what happens at the end but they had only read half the book :(. It is really interesting to get to see it visual so there isn't much imagination to it, but I love the two monsters, they are so funny! I rate this book with 4.5 starts out of 5. (6/3/11)
Tasha, 14

Paragraph final "Ghost Circles" by Jeff smith. This book was amazing because the book is fiction. I think fiction books are really fun to read. They made this book so the people can laugh about it. I give this book 4.5 out of 5 start because it’s really funny and is good book to read. Now I’m going to tell you about this book. Well this book is about 3 animals cousins the the new this girl and her grandma and there this other animals named rat creatures and they always rued everything and they have to get to the ghost circles because if not ht e girl will die because the rat creatures affect her. My friend Jose recommends this book to me and is very interesting I recommend this book to young people like me and my friends. (5/26/11)
Orlando, 14

The book am reading is bone is written by jeff smith and this book is fiction ithink for me this book is really fun and he’s really interesting because is about quest for the spark and this character called bone is really funny because it all starts when bone has adventures in the mountains in the desert first is in the mountains when they saw suddenly about monsters and began to pursue and this part is nice because bone started running and monsters ran bone followed by a river and went up fast and bone monsters were running when it hit a log and fell into the river (5/26/11)

book jacket image Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger

this book has a deep meening that no one sees he is going through through troubled times and his problems are somthing that people can relate to in a different form (6/27/11)
Zoe, 13

Worst book ever. There is no plot. Nothing much happens. The main character is a jerk. He just walks around, gets drunk a couple times and complains about people. He calls everyone else phony, when he is the biggest phony in the whole book. I hated it. (5/8/11)
Nicole, 14

book jacket image by Kate Wild

I read the book I did not read the whole thing but I read most of it. I rated this book with 4 stars. Initially I say this because this book is a great book but some parts are kind of not good. I recommend this book to anybody who likes to read about fights. Even though this is a fiction book it is still good. Eventually when you read this book you can tell that it is definitely a fiction book. You can tell this because the author uses many fake things you see in fighting movies. I think many girls would not like this book. To finish this off if you like these fiction fighting books I recommend it to you. Hopefully you have a chance to read this. (6/3/10)

book jacket image The First Part Last by Angela Johonson

Angela Johnson spins yet another cleverly crafted tale with an African American protagonist. Bobby isn't done being a kid himself when he discovers that his girlfriend, Nia, is pregnant with his baby. Each chapter is titled either "then" and "now," comparing how Bobby was before Feather, his baby, and how he was after. A truly beautiful book with an easily understandable plot, I recommend The First Part Last to readers of realistic fiction. (6/21/2011)

book jacket image Flags of our Fathers by James Bradley

Non-fiction. Great author my dad recommended the book to me. This book is about the Marines on Iwo Jima but mainly the six that rose the replacement flag but became the flag in the most famous photograph in history Flags of Our Fathers begins in 1998 when James Bradley (son of John Bradley one of the flag raisers) travels to Iwo Jima to post a memorial to his father. The story takes place on a February day in 1945. Two days after the Marines landed on Iwo Jima, one of the bloodiest battles of World War II, five Marines and a Navy Corpsman (James Bradley’s father) placed a replacement flag on top of Mt. Suribachi when the picture was taken and processed it was shipped around the world and people thought the battle was over….yet it only just begun. The book goes through the life of the 5 Marines and the navy corpsman from when they decided to enlist to when they got home only 3 made it home. In this book I wouldn’t have a favorite character it would be all the military personals that where in World War II. For any one who knows about World War II already knows the conflict and how this book will end. My favorite part would be when they raise the flag the first time and the second time. (5/16/2011)

Freefall is a great book that really digs deep and hits your heart. It is a book that is real. It doesn't focus on the superficial crap like some other books do. It is a great book that is really humbling. If you like books that are fake and have no reality to them at all, DO NOT READ. (6/13/10)

The book seems so real like these events can happen and seem so familiar. And be so convincing that this may happen. Like the splash made by the Nixie when she swam away its like splashes I see all the time it makes me wonder. I say 4th-6th graders should read the book because it fits in there nature and it seems so real. For example, the giants use the look of a hill and many hills fit the description. (4/5/10)

book jacket image Golden Compass by Philip Pullman (His Dark Materials series #1)

This book, this SERIES, would have been 1,000 times better if they didn't dis Catholics the whole time. I honestly loved the plot of this book, but the whole Catholic thing got on my nerves and it ruined it for me. In my personal opinion, the author should have kept his feelings towards Catholics to himself. Eh, but what are you gonna do? (11/7/11)

I rated The House on the Cliff with four stars because it has a great mystery. The book had lots of great word choice and awesome characters such as the hardy boys. Also I rated it four stars because it had a good ending a solved mystery. I would recommend this book for fith graders because you have to understand the mysteries and clues. I think younger children would be confused of all the action. If you like mysteries I recommend The House on the Cliff for fith graders. (4/25/11)

I read the book BEAUTIFULL DEAD by EDEN MAGUIRE and I rated this book with 5 stars. I did because this book is full of suspense and mystery that will keep you wanting for more and more. This book is very interesting because it won't get you bored and you will enjoy it like I did. This book is mainly about the resurrection of 5 teenagers that "THINK" they're dead when there not. The main character DARINA has to pass through a tragicall moment in her life that is her boyfriend's death and her other friends deaths. Darina's mission is to help one of them find out how or what cause their death so that they can finally rest in piece. I recommend this book to older kids that are into the mysterious things and are curious about what happens after your dead. I know you kids will enjoy it because it's full of suspense and each event will keep you more curious about whatâ€â"¢s going too happened next. I really enjoyed this book so I really recommend it to you and don't miss the second part called "BEAUTIFULL DEAD" (Arizona). (6/1/10).

The Late Great Mexican Border: Reports from a Disappearing Line by Bobby Byrd and Susannah Mississippi Byrd

This book is about two couples that want to be together and they want to be happy in the united states and when they go to California and cross the border they are exited and they started living in a safe house for a while and when they go to los Angeles because their destiny and they started living in an apartment and then husbands gob was ok for a couple and their first kid was rano in the book does not say his real name and then they started to have problems and then the mother has 3 more children their nick names that were on the book are cuca, ana, and bird then they are starting to have more problems and they are moving house to house and sometimes they sleep under some bridges and I think that is sad because they kind of poor and sometimes they sleep with strangers so they prefer to go back to México and start over again but the problem is that the kids don’t know any Spanish and the dad gets the same job as principal and the mom is a house keeper like the other moms! in the pueblo and the kids go to school and rano the oldest brother graduates from school and helps his family out and all his other brothers graduate from high school and go back to los Angeles and they go to college there the middle one gets marry with a woman that is from Aguas Calientes a place in México that place is so pretty is like in the mountains in here and I think is better in México because over there is always hot sometimes cold but it feels fresh when it’s cold and is not that cold like here that is freezing and that is my book (5/26/11)

Mockingjay was a horrible book. I wouldn't recommend reading it only because it is too sad. I cried for hours!! If you don't read the last chapters it is an amazing book!! (4/11/12)
Jesse, 14

An amazing Trilogy. The ending to Mockingjay- to the series will leave you in shock. I still am depressed and sad and enraged and its two weeks later. The Hunger Games trilogy was my new addiction, my new Harry Potter. It took me less than a week to read each of the books. The thing I love about Suzanne Collins is she always makes it so what you would expect to happen in your story doesn't happen. That also makes me mad at the same time, because I didn't know she would make his ending like that. I recommend this trilogy to everyone. The ending made me put my knees to my chest and cry for an hour, because I got so attached. You have to read it!! (1/29/12)

book jacket image Mercy, Unbound by Kim Antieau

Mercy Unbound is a type of book that young teenage girls can relate to, all girls/ females, at one point or other have self image issues or worry about ‘fitting in’ and doing anything possible to ‘fit in’. I chose this book because I had started to read it when I started class, but I never finished it because I didn’t really feel like I could relate to it. Then I decided to give it another try and read it, it’s a really good book. The book is about fifteen-year-old Mercy O’Conner thinking she is becoming an angel, she says she can feel her wings growing out of her back. Mercy doesn’t eat, and her parents have begun to worry about her. They check her into a treatment center in New Mexico where she meets other girls with eating disorders. And at first she feels out of place because she’s an angel and not an anorexic. But after a while she finds herself fitting in with a group of girls, they are all supposed to help each other get better but they all refuse to eat and prefer to remain anorexic. Mercy doesn’t believe that she’s an angel because she’s crazy but because she wants to help ease the world’s misery. Later in the story, Mercy runs away from the treatment center, and loses her memory. She finds herself in Tucson, where extra-terrestrials, spirits, and Indian folklore are part of daily life. When she is found, the couple that found her, could have sworn to have seen wings on her and they found her naked. They took her in and you will have to find out the rest for yourself. When I finished reading the book I wanted to know more, I didn’t want it to end. It’s a really interesting story, you might think ‘it’s just another girly drama book’ but its not, even if you don’t quite relate with it, its still a story that gives you feeling towards the subject. I definitely give the book 5 stars and I recommend anyone to read it, but especially young teenage girls and parent of kids with eating disorders.(5/16/2011)

We were so creeped! At least I was and that's saying something, but I don't know, maybe it just has to do with the setting and time you read the book and how much you choose to believe. Night was whitening dairy of a well known Jew called Elie Wiesel he survived the holocaust. Maybe you have seen him in the Opera show? This book isn't just some book that some author invited. No this sad story is about a young boy who lost his family and goes through this terrible nightmare with his dad. This book is amazing and emotional story that touches you! And if I was to rate this book I would give it at least its five stars because its so touching and emotional like the time he was being whipped by an SS Officer because he walked in on the officer having sex with a Russian girl. The SS Officer decided that his punishment was going to be, being whipped and letting everybody watch. So no other prisoner would go in the way a officer. This book started off With Elie already benign about two are three years in to the holocaust. They haven't heard about Germans going to their city. Then putting them on a train sending them to Germany a place named achwitchs. To some of the nastiest and ugliest prisons there! book jacket image Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck

The book I want to talk about is Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. I would give these book four out of five stars. Because I really liked it but I didn’t like the ending of the book. I thought it could have been better but after all it was a great book. The book was about two brother’s lennie and gorge lennie is the slow one. the one that has the mind of a 12 year old kid and gorge is the smart one of the brothers lennie is the big scary looking one and gorge is the short one but the handsome one the one that takes the action of both of them and lennie is the one that always has to do something to get them in trouble. Now am going to talk about some parts I really liked about the book. I really liked this part of the book where they both have to run from the law and hide out for a couple of weeks and then they are walking and going from place to place. Also when lennie fights this guy named curly and it was because of the wife they had a fighting seen with it. I recommend this book to other kids that like an adventure. Over all I really liked this book and I hope more people like it to. (5/26/11)

This book talks about how Reymundo becomes a "Latin King" gang member and how being a King affects his life. I enjoyed reading this book because it taught me a lot about the life of a gang member. an exiting and riviting tale from start to finish. this book will certainly take you up one of the biggest peaks.... in the world! (9/27/11)
raechel, 11 (12 soon)

Peak by Roland Smith. This book was about a boy the want to climb the mountain everest and the mount everest is 29,000 ft. I rate this book a 5 stars because this book I think is a very good book for teenagers when I start to reading the book of peak for the first time I think it was going to be very boring but I when I got into the middle of the book. The book of peak became very interesting because peak goes to climb the mountain with some friends and he leaft his mom and sisters at home very depresing.I think if people read the book of peak they are going to like it because in some parts of the story it’s very funny and other parts are interesting. I think when some people goes to climb a mountain they feel the same emotion like peak and his friends because when peak got to Thailand peak find one of his friends name zopa he was the person who show how to climb the mount everest to the dad of peak. When peak saw zopa in the airport they went to a hotel for peak can rest and the next day zopa and peak went with a doctor for they can check peak and the way zopa know if peak is ready to climb when the doctor start to checking peak. book jacket image Peter and the Starcatchers by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson (Starcatchers trilogy #1)

Peter and the Starcatchers is pretty much the story of how Peter Pan and Neverland came to be. Love it! :D It's like a mature version of Peter Pan only...not. I really don't know how to explain it to give it all the credit it deserves, so you should just read it because it's really a great book!! (11/7/11)

book jacket image Peter Nimble and His Fantastic Eyes by Jonathan Auxier

A very very good read for anyone! this is about a boy who is a thief and is blind, and wants to be neither. He works for a guy named Mr. Seamus. One day, he helps a guy sell his hats that "take away bad scent", frees a zebra from a bitter end, and catches a gang in a trap and then tries out a golden pair of eyes. The eyes whisk him to an island and he agrees to go on a quest to save someone. But, little does he know that he'll be helping himself, too. Filled with humor, suspense, and a little friend, this is a book worth reading. c(-: (2/12/12)

book jacket image Ranger's Apprentice: The Ruins of Gorlan by John Flanagan

This book is soo good. It has lots of action and mystery. Flannagan portrayed his characters so realistically it's almost as though they're real. The plots are really good too, he keeps the reader in suspense and leads everything up to the ending (which is usually an awesome battle) and its hard to determine the ending because the books require some thinking. Besides that, I love them and you should 2 :) (2/2/12)

book jacket image The Road by Cormac McCarthy

So I had to read The Road by Cormac McCarthy for honors 10 english, and I thought that the book was chilling, intense, and left the reader on their toes. The Road is about a father and a son who are left to the devastating destruction of the world; and must find a way to live off of what is left. The road is the only way of survival, even though the road brings out the strive to move forward, it also brings the dangers to the surface. Throughout the book, Cormac McCarthy tells you how the world became so colorless and lifeless and how these two figures moved on even though there was nothing waiting for them. I recommend that everyone should read this book (8/4/10)

Saint Iggy by K.L. Going. This book was amazing because the history of the book is very interesting. Also the fact that my mom is the drugs is very bad for you. This book is about the guy. He is a junky, but he need to change his life. The most interesting part of the book is when Iggy was to change his life and could not, but the good thing is that eventually could and I am glad. His mom is helping Iggy for change his life. I think that anybody who just wants to learn that you are not the only one to go through rough times should read this book because it opens you eyes to a whole new world. (5/26/11)

This book is about the life of a young man named Gregory “slam” Harris. He is in particular talented in basketball and his goal is to make it to college and play there. There are some obstacles in his way a major obstacle is that his grades are slipping. He came from a lower school and into a more advanced school is one of the reasons his grades are slipping. He thinks everyone in his school thinks that he can achieve in a school like the one he is attending. Some teachers are trying to bring him down but he is trying to achieve his goal and show the teachers and his school that he is able to achieve his goal. He knows that to make it to the top he has to let go of things one thing that he chooses to let go of is his best friends Ice because he realizes that he is dealing drugs. To make it to the top he must regain his grades. At the end his team beats the undefeated Carver school. Out of 5 stars I give this 4 stars I would recommend this to anyone that likes a good fast paced book. Enjoy. (5/16/11)

Slam by: Walter Dean Myers is a book of a teenager with a great talent of skill in basketball. Although Gregory is aware of his future in basketball he gets many obstacles that are slowing him down. As the season for basketball is here his grades drop even more then he ever though, which makes his teachers mad, making them push him to pass. As this process continues his temper over pressure increases making it more difficult to stay focuses and do his work. I really like and enjoyed this book. I think that anyone with this situation you should read it, it helps the reader understand more in the situation you stand in. Also it gives a massage that I kept in mind which was “Anything is accomplish in many ways as long as you never give up” (5/16/11)

Soccer: from Beckham to Zidane by Christopher G. Morris

Soccer from Beckham to zidane is written by David beckham and zidane. My book is a great book because it talks about how David and zidane started their soccer career. Also this book shows how to play soccer with the best moves of these two great soccer players and they also talk about their soccer careers. This book takes place every where in the world because David beckham played soccer in real Madrid Spain and he also played international games like world cups and friendly games. Their is a lot of characters in this book one of them is the worlds famous soccer player Pele he played for the international team of Brazil. Another character in the book is Ms.Beckham she is the wife of Beckham and they had three children this are the characters in the book. David Beckham started his soccer career at the age of 18 but was recognized at the age of 15. My favorite part of the book is when David Beckham encourages other kids to play their best at soccer and to never give up for there dreams of becoming a professional would recommend this book to all the fans of David Beckham and Zidane’s. (5/26/11)
jesus, 16

This book is written by Christopher Morris. This book is so interesting because is about soccer and the most interesting is that It is all about beckham’s life who is one of my favorite soccer players. He also gives some advice about how to play soccer, like how to kick the ball hard and drib the ball. I rate this book a 5 starts because is the book most interesting that I have read in my life. When I was reading this book one thing that happened to me is that I just wanted to keep reading and it is a good thing because I had never feel like that when I read a book. One of the things that make this book more interesting is that this book is written chronological. This book talks about how beckham started to be professional, all the teams he had played with, also it provides some advice about how hit the ball with the head and how to pass the ball perfectly. I recommend this book to all those people who want to learn more things about soccer because how I said this book provides a lot of advice. (5/26/11)

MAZING! that is in reality all there is to say about this book. It is one of the most enchanting books i have ever read and would say that any that like humor sarcasm and action will fall hard! SUMMARY: It all starts off because, Gen can't keep his mouth shut bragging endlessly 'I can steal anything.' and to prove it he does, he steals the king's royal seal and tells the world about it, then ends up in prison. But it seems that he was arrested not so he could be hung but so that he can steal something so powerful the king will stop at nothing to have it. Read it! Also they told us how they started to do drugs and why. The reason I like this book was because it tells you not to do things that you’re going to regret when you’re in the future I like this book because it shows you not to use drugs. Uprising is the story of Yetta, Rahel, Bella, and Jane. It is an historical fiction story and is set in the early 1900's. Yetta and Rahel have immigrated to America to improve their own lives and find work and live independently. However, they soon become unhappy with their backbreaking hours and scarce paychecks. They help to organize a huge strike and participate in it actively. Bella is also an immigrant from Italy who knows no English and is only here to help feed her poor and just barely alive family back in Italy. Her family is the only thing that keeps her going when she deals with cruel landlords, mean bosses at work, and too much difficult work. Jane is a wealthy girl born in America who is sick of being proper and wants to get involved in the strike, and most importantly, help her three friends improve their lives. In the fire of 1911 at the Triangle Shirtwaist factory, Yetta and Jane lose their lives but Bella lives. The last chapter describes Bella as a grownup.! A beautiful book that will make you cry. book jacket image Where Men Win Glory by John Krakauer

I read the book Where Men Win Glory by Jon Krakauer. This book is a fascinating book I would rate this book with 4.8 stars. This is because it's a good and interesting book about Pat Tillman. Pat was a Safety for the Arizona Cardinals he gave up a 3.6 Million NFL contract to join the Army and go to Pakistan to fight the Taliban. On April 22, 2004 his life would end in a barrage of bullets fired by his fellow soldiers. He gave it all for the country he loved. I would recommend this book to any teenager who likes football or who is really interested in the U.S. army. Maybe even the people who like the Arizona Cardinals. It's a great book I hope you like it. It just has a lot of hard words but it's not that difficult to read. Have fun reading it. I hope you read this book and enjoy it as much as I did. (6/1/10)

Some tight things are that is about drugs and it all starts with a big accident and the drug deals and everything starts from their. I would recommend this book to people who like confusing books because it's hard to understand. (6/1/10)
